The Longé products have undergone clinical safety and efficacy tests, biocompatibility and ecotoxicity tests.
These clinical tests have been carried out by departments of Italian Universities of Pharmacology and Dermatology, qualified testing laboratories (for Face and Body treatments) and specialized centres, like the Centro Tessile Cotoniero (Cotton Textile Centre) for the Fisio Soft Line.
The methodologies used for the clinical tests comply with the new regulations which prohibit testing finished cosmetic products and cosmetic ingredients on animals:
In vitro tests
Are an interesting alternative to classic in vivo methods for the evaluation of the biological characteristics of cosmetic ingredients and finished products, in accordance with the current regulations which ask cosmetic manufacturers to test the product safety without using animals.
Microbiological Tests
In order to meet the requirements set out by the cosmetic product sector regulations, microbiological analysis is one of the essential elements to ensure the product is not harmful.
All batches of Longé treatments (creams, cleanser, lip balm) undergo microbiological tests.
PATCH TEST (in vivo)
It is an epicutaneous test to evaluate the irritation potential of a cosmetic product, performed on volunteers, according to ethical principles for medical research involving human subjects. This test is not legally compulsorily, but it is carried out voluntarily by companies to evaluate product tolerance.
All Longé products are dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic, as proven by patch tests.
4 Metal tested
We decided to carry out not just the Nickel test but also a set of tests for heavy metals, such as lead, chrome and cobalt, on the Longé Labi Plus lip balm, in order to guarantee greater safety for the consumer in the use of a product especially intended for the lip area, which is an extremely delicate skin, because it lacks the outermost layer of the epidermis (stratum corneum). Moreover, products applied to the lips come into contact with saliva and this is one more reason why a safe formulation has been designed.
All Longé Labi Plus batches therefore undergo tests to make sure that heavy metal concentrations are lower than 1ppm (part per million).
CLINICAL TEST (in vivo) FOR EVALUATION OF COMEDOGENICITY OF A COSMETIC PRODUCT
This test allows for evaluating if a cosmetic product causes the formation of comedones, in other words if it generates spots or blackheads.
The appearance of blackheads is a side effect which can occur as a consequence of prolonged use of some cosmetic products.
Tests carried out show that Longé Idra and Longé Plus creams are not comedogenic.
ANALYSIS OF SENSITIZING POTENTIAL OF FINISHED PRODUCT (in vitro)
This test aims to determine the absence of sensitizing effects in an ingredient for cosmetic use. When defining a pattern of skin tolerability, it is important to consider not just the irritation potential but also the sensitizing potential of the product in question for safety purposes.
Longé Idra and Longé Plus creams do not show detectable sensitizing activity and have been formulated to minimize allergy risks.
TEST FOR SKIN IRRITATION/CYTOCOMPATIBILITY (in vitro)
We decided to perform this particular safety test on the Longé Labi Plus lip balm, because the skin lacks the outermost layer of the epidermis, that is the stratum corneum, and therefore lips are more delicate and sensitive. This test has demonstrated that the product is non-irritating.
ECOTOXICOLOGICAL TESTS
The whole dermacosmetic Longé Fisio Soft line, made from fabric with microfiber, has undergone Ecotoxicological tests in the Cotton Textile Centre of Busto Arsizio to guarantee the non-toxicity of the Fisio Soft Products
These tests have shown that fabrics do not contain formaldehyde, phthalates and carcinogenic aromatic amines.
BIOCOMPATIBILITY TEST
The whole dermacosmetic Longé Fisio Soft line, made from fabric with microfiber, has undergone Biocompatibility tests in the Cotton Textile Centre of Busto Arsizio.
These tests have demonstrated that the fabric is non-sensitizing and non-cytotoxic (it does not damage skin cells).
